A valiant knight escorts a princess to be married to his uncle, but a switched draught transforms their resentment into an overwhelming, illicit passion. The first act follows the shipboard meeting and the potion's effect; the second shows clandestine encounters after the princess's wedding, betrayal by a jealous companion, and the knight's mortal wounding; the third traces his removal to his homeland, her summoned attempt at healing, and their deaths that reunite them only in death. Themes include desire, loyalty, fate, and the destructive cost of forbidden love.

Richard Wagner

Richard Wagner (1813-1883) was a German composer, theatre director, and conductor, primarily known for his operas and musical dramas. His innovative approach to harmony and orchestration had a profound influence on the development of Western music. Wagner's notable works include the epic cycle "Der Ring des Nibelungen," which comprises four operas, and the tragic love story "Tristan und Isolde." In addition to his compositions, he authored several important texts on music and conducting, such as "On Conducting." Wagner's life and artistic philosophy are explored in his autobiographical work, "My Life," where he reflects on his experiences and the evolution of his ideas.
