A supernatural mariner is condemned to eternal wandering unless a woman’s unwavering love redeems him. A local seafarer strikes a bargain to bring the phantom ashore and offers his daughter in marriage for the stranger’s treasure; the daughter, captivated by the legend, vows to end the curse. Her former suitor warns against devotion to a spectral promise, and village scenes and stormy shipboard encounters alternate across three acts. The drama culminates in the woman’s steadfast resolve and the resolution of the mariner’s fate, exploring themes of redemption, fidelity, and the collision between mortal lives and uncanny forces.

Richard Wagner

Richard Wagner (1813-1883) was a German composer, theatre director, and conductor, primarily known for his operas and musical dramas.
