The two operas complete a mythic cycle, following a youth raised without fear who forges a legendary sword, slays a dragon to claim a cursed hoard and ring, and is manipulated into betraying a sleeping valkyrie he had awakened. Intrigues among gods, dwarfs, and mortals revolve around the ring's power and its destructive curse, culminating in the hero's death and a sacrificial act that brings about the downfall of the old divine order. The works interweave dramatic action, moral ambiguity about power and love, and richly symbolic music-drama tableaux.

Richard Wagner

Richard Wagner (1813-1883) was a German composer, theatre director, and conductor, primarily known for his operas and musical dramas. His innovative approach to harmony and orchestration had a profound influence on the development of Western music. Wagner's notable works include the epic cycle "Der Ring des Nibelungen," which comprises four operas, and the tragic love story "Tristan und Isolde." In addition to his compositions, he authored several important texts on music and conducting, such as "On Conducting." Wagner's life and artistic philosophy are explored in his autobiographical work, "My Life," where he reflects on his experiences and the evolution of his ideas.
