About This Book
Two teenage cameramen and their friends accept an assignment to film the construction and surroundings of the Panama Canal, traveling from New York to the Isthmus. Along the route they encounter broken carriages, delayed mail, mysterious visitors, jungle hazards, landslides, collisions and engineering emergencies at cuts and dams; rescues, narrow escapes and investigations of disappearances and suspected sabotage follow as they pursue motion-picture subjects and unravel local intrigues. Episodes alternate travel and fieldwork with technical incidents around locks and dams and instances of personal danger, highlighting resourcefulness, teamwork and the practical challenges of on-location filmmaking.
