About This Book
A group of boys led by Johnny Thompson race to save their town’s baseball grounds and to find a pitcher who can beat their rivals, only to be drawn into a sequence of uncanny occurrences after meeting a diminutive stranger named Tao Sing, who appears to read thoughts and foresee events. Strange inventions and phenomena—thought cameras, think-o-graphs, vanishing figures, mysterious passengers, and experiments with ether, liquid air, and smoke screens—produce perilous puzzles and narrow escapes. The boys rely on ingenuity, loyalty, and clues revealed in Chinese to unravel the enigma and protect their team.
