A Colombian traveler recounts an Atlantic voyage that begins with river journeys along the Magdalena and visits to coastal towns, proceeds through shipboard episodes and storms, and continues with extended stays in England and France. The narrative follows routes from London to Paris, then through Burgundy, Lyon and the Rhone valley into southern France, before entering Spain to describe Catalonia, Valencia, Madrid, Toledo, La Mancha and extensive Andalusian landscapes and cities such as Granada, Seville, Córdoba and Cádiz. Observations alternate among monuments, urban life, commerce, industry, social types, local customs and reflective comparisons about Spain’s condition and institutions.
