About This Book
The narrator, a teacher who commutes weekly by horse and buggy between town work and a rural family home, recounts a series of long winter and seasonal drives across the prairie. He describes landscape features such as marshes, poplars, fog, snow and wind, and notes road hazards, small accidents, animal behavior and distant house lights. Seven particularly vivid trips are rendered as closely observed vignettes that mix travel anecdote, nature description and quiet reflection on rural life and the emotional pull of home.
