About This Book
The story follows a young boy who travels to join his father overseas, survives a violent transatlantic shipwreck, and is marooned on a remote sandbank inhabited by a band of wreckers. He awakens among rough companions, learns the island’s harsh routines and makes an uneasy friendship with an older man named Ben while exploring a hut crowded with salvaged arms and supplies. Curiosity and a growing urge for revenge against a cruel antagonist propel him through a winter of hardship, clandestine ventures, and conflicts that lead to eventual release and reckoning.
