About This Book
A small party of fugitives flees violent unrest and depends on a Mohawk hunter to lead them through dense, dangerous country. Their progress alternates between tense concealment and sudden peril: skirmishes, uneasy encounters with settlers, river crossings, concealed hiding-places, and episodes of capture and escape. Shifting loyalties among guides, rival Indigenous parties, and opportunistic locals complicate every move, producing betrayals, rescues, and moral dilemmas. The narrative follows their struggle for safety as revelations about motives and alliances emerge, forcing a stark reckoning with losses and the harsh realities of survival in the wilderness.
