The Old Man of the Mountain

The narrative follows a small band of companions who set out into little-known frontier regions to find a missing archaeologist. Their journey gathers local guides and reluctant refugees, and leads them into hidden temples and subterranean passages where a cult venerates a mysterious Eye. Strange phenomena—underground cities, alchemical devices, monstrous creatures and engineered traps—force repeated confrontations with priests, tribal forces and adaptive foes. Gradual discoveries explain the origin and workings of the Eye and its guardians, producing tense fights, narrow escapes and final revelations that resolve the immediate peril and uncover buried knowledge.
