About This Book
A young girl in the plains of Kansas is carried by a cyclone to a colorful, magical land where she seeks a way home. Along the journey she gathers three companions—a straw-stuffed man who desires a brain, a rusted metal man who desires a heart, and a timid lion who desires courage—and each pursues the quality they lack. They travel the Yellow Brick Road to a great emerald city to petition a powerful wizard, facing enchanted fields, forest dangers, flying monkeys, and witches. The wizard proves to be an ordinary charlatan, but with help from kindly sorceresses the girl ultimately returns home, having learned about friendship, self-reliance, and the value of home.
