The Highgrader

The narrative follows lodge guests, miners, and visitors in a mountain frontier setting where polite society and rough Western ways collide. A spirited young woman forms an uneasy attraction to a reserved man whose shifts between refinement and plain speech suggest a hidden past, while fugitives from justice and pursuing officers drive much of the action. A blizzard, ambushes, and confrontations that demand proof of character force characters to reveal loyalties and principles.
