The Dialect of the West of England; Particularly Somersetshire

The work surveys the vernacular speech of southwestern England, offering phonetic observations, descriptions of distinctive vowel and consonant shifts, and analysis of regional pronoun forms. A substantial glossary lists local words with meanings and notes on pronunciation and usage. Interspersed poems and short pieces reproduce local speech for illustration, and two dissertations examine Anglo-Saxon pronouns and related philological issues.
