About This Book
A five-act satirical comedy portrays a small-town administration thrown into panic by news of an incognito government inspector. Local dignitaries, anxious about their misrule, flatter and bribe a careless young visitor whom they assume to be the inspector, while he, a thoughtless wanderer, exploits their gullibility. The action exposes bureaucratic venality, hypocrisy, and social pretensions through escalating misunderstandings and farcical encounters, culminating in a final twist that unsettles the town and highlights the moral absurdity of self-serving authority.
