Portugal e Ilhas Adjacentes: Exposição Ethnografica Portugueza

The author surveys the neglected state of national ethnography and outlines a program for systematic collection and study of material and cultural data via exhibitions and a proposed museum. He identifies gaps in research on physical characteristics, diet, housing and furniture, traditional clothing, crafts, music, popular arts, fishing, transport, and popular commerce, and proposes classification and display of artifacts, games, dances, associations, and rituals. The text combines methodological observations and suggested exhibition categories with an appeal to scholars and citizens to collaborate in documenting traditions as a prerequisite for cultural understanding and broader civic and educational renewal.
