About This Book
A four-act drama set in a rural parish depicts the return of a famed tietäjä whose alleged healings rekindle fear, curiosity and resentment among villagers. Clergy, officials and relatives clash as gossip, old grievances and legal authority collide with folk ritual and popular belief. Intimate domestic scenes and public gatherings—parsonage parlors, market places and village courts—reveal characters torn between compassion, suspicion and the need for order. The play stages the moral and social consequences of competing systems of power, using rustic setting, vernacular interactions and ritualized moments to probe questions of blame, belonging and who may claim the right to heal or to judge.
