About This Book
A cheerful Air Service lieutenant known for unlucky forced landings is assigned to make an aerial mosaic of a long Kentucky river and its surrounding countryside. The narrative follows his survey as mechanical trouble, hazardous terrain, and local resistance complicate the mission, producing improvised landings, encounters with mountaineer communities and moonshine-makers, and episodic adventures on the ground. Alternating between flying sequences and comic social episodes, the story mixes aviation action, rural oddities, and light romance as the protagonist improvises to survive and complete his photographic assignment.
