Die Erzählung berichtet ferner von weiteren Landungen in südlichen Archipelen, naturkundlichen Beobachtungen sowie von Reparaturen, Verlusten, Krankheit und Bestattungen. Handlungen reichen von freundlichen Kontakten bis zu gewaltsamen Zusammenstößen; der Text vermerkt auch Folgen eingeschleppter Krankheiten, Sklavenhaltung in einigen Häfen und den Tod mehrerer Mannschaftsmitglieder.
