Mad: A Story of Dust and Ashes

The narrative follows Septimus Hardon, an awkward but kind man who lives with his father and assists in a small printing-room devoted to the father’s reformist manuscript. He harbors a long, secret love for Mary, who marries his schoolfriend Tom Grey, and thereafter devotes himself to serving the wife and child with quiet loyalty.
