About This Book
A poor but honest newsboy in a bustling city earns his living, accepts a five-dollar bill from a gentleman, and vows to return the change. His integrity is tested by companions who urge him to spend the money and by an assault and robbery that threaten his reputation. Subsequent intrigues involve rival youths, a wealthy household, secret schemes, and a suspected theft that casts suspicion on him. Allies intervene, an inventive device and concealed facts come to light, and deceptive plots are exposed. After setbacks and reconciliations, misunderstandings are resolved and the youth's character and prospects steadily improve.
