About This Book
A small party journeys deep into the Amazonian and Bolivian wilderness and soon confronts the hazards of dense forest, swift rivers, fire, and disorientation. Separated groups endure survival struggles, raids, pitched fights, and daring rescues as they press into unknown country. Encounters with remote indigenous communities lead to violent clashes and a tense subplot involving a young captive whose loyalties and attachments complicate efforts to secure safety. The narrative alternates fast-paced adventure episodes with descriptive travelogue material, including an extended account of urban social life and the striking highland lake that punctuates their inland travels.
