About This Book
The narrative follows a carefree grasshopper who, after a thrifty ant refuses him shelter, collapses in winter and is unintentionally taken into the warm home of a family of meadow-mice. They nurse him back to health with food and warmed gooseberry syrup, give him a cozy bed, and include him in household life; later he repays their kindness by bravely rescuing the mice children from a menacing black cat. Gentle humor, bright illustrations, and a focus on generosity and compassion guide the tale for young readers.
