About This Book
A small group of children and young relatives become stranded in the polar north after their ship vanishes and must improvise shelter, food, and safety. They take refuge in a cave, salvage provisions, and explore a stark landscape of moving ice and dazzling snow, discovering a sheltered lake and a fruitful island. The party confronts storms, drifting bergs, bears and packs of foxes, and dwindling supplies, while resourceful youths hunt and climb and the girls keep the camp together. The narrative follows their practical ingenuity, moments of wonder at unexpected wildlife and landscape, and ongoing efforts to survive and signal for rescue.
