Children's Stories in American History

This collection retells episodes from North American prehistory through the Revolutionary era in clear, child-friendly prose, beginning with Ice Age landscapes and extinct megafauna and moving through native mound-building cultures, indigenous societies, and early European contacts and voyages of exploration. Subsequent chapters present accounts of colonization, settlement efforts, encounters and conflicts between natives and Europeans, notable exploratory ventures, regional stories such as Acadia and Maine, and culminating material on Pontiac and the American Revolution, accompanied by period illustrations.
