About This Book
The play follows a displaced royal woman who, having been spared death, serves as a temple priestess among a foreign people and longs for her homeland. When two familiar men arrive as captives under a ritual that requires human offerings, a process of recognition and moral reasoning unfolds: the parties confront the tension between violent custom and humane restraint, leading to refusal of sacrifice, the revelation of identities, and a path toward reconciliation and return. Themes include mercy over vengeance, the dignity of individuals, and the power of compassionate law over ritual brutality.
