About This Book
A young French villager leaves home to seek fortune in the United States, enduring tearful farewells and awkward miscommunications on arrival. He finds temporary refuge among compatriots but faces repeated refusals when seeking work, watching his savings and optimism fade as homesickness deepens. As isolation and disappointment mount, he encounters another displaced young man; their growing friendship and shared hardships reshape his experience and underscore the contrast between idealized dreams and the harsh realities of immigrant life.
