About This Book
The narrative follows a voyager whose sea voyages bring multiple shipwrecks and separations, leading him and a small group to penetrate unknown lands where they encounter a distinctive society; detailed chapters describe language, customs, conversations about religion with local leaders, attendance at the royal court, ceremonies of birth and burial, and local justice. Later episodes trace departures and reunions with lost companions, a passage to Asia that results in incarceration and an encounter with a fellow prisoner from another culture, and periods of enslavement and travel that conclude with arrival in a European capital. Interwoven are philosophical reflections and observations on manners, law, and faith.
