About This Book
A man purchases a marked-down refrigerator that begins to produce a daily supply of packaged fish eggs. He and his girlfriend eat some, give much away, and attempt to rid themselves of the growing surplus until the deliveries stop. Later a small, disturbed man identifies the appliance as a mis-shipped special unit and explains that the packages were not ordinary food, accusing them of having consumed an entire group whose plans depended on those eggs. The story examines casual consumption, unexpected consequences of convenience, and mistaken assumptions about unfamiliar technology.
