Tom Swift in the Caves of Ice, or, the Wreck of the Airship

The story follows a young inventor who builds and pilots inventive airships and leads an expedition into a frozen northern region in search of a rumored valley of gold. Rivalry with a boastful competitor produces competing flying machines and episodes of sabotage, and severe weather and mechanical trouble cause a wreck on the ice. The group endures storms, encounters with wildlife and local inhabitants, and explores ice caves while attempting repairs and rescue. The narrative alternates scenes of aeronautical ingenuity, physical danger, and cooperative problem-solving as the party struggles to survive and recover the clues that brought them north.
