About This Book
The story follows a recently converted former burglar who welcomes a deliberate trial of his virtue by staying with a jeweller whose shop overflows with tempting valuables. The convert boasts about past exploits and revels in being tested, while his host becomes increasingly alarmed at the risk to his goods and reputation. Humor arises from the clash between zealous piety and the man's violent past, and from the jeweller's anxious attempts to manage the situation as the convert insists on proving his reform.
