The Story of American History for Elementary Schools

Aimed at younger grammar-school readers, the text presents American history through concise biographical sketches, dramatic episodes, and glimpses of daily life to awaken interest and prepare for fuller study. It surveys early exploration and colonization, encounters and conflicts with Native peoples, colonial growth, and imperial struggles in North America, then follows the Revolution with key battles, declarations, and notable personal stories. Later chapters treat naval exploits, the War of 1812, westward settlement to the Pacific, the Civil War and its naval dimensions, and the Spanish-American conflict. An appendix offers graded reference and supplementary reading for successive periods.
