The Song of the Wolf

The narrative opens in a spare, springtime ranch landscape and follows escalating tensions between a steward and the family he serves after a humiliating exchange, which coincides with planned entertainment and the impending arrival of relatives. Night fires and an armed confrontation wound a loyal ranch-hand and expose simmering rivalries; the steward performs crude surgery to save him and vows retribution against the attacker. Financial, social, and personal entanglements widen as loyalties shift, betrayals surface, and characters confront moral choices that move them toward renunciation and reckoning.
