About This Book
A tenderfoot visiting a Western ranch volunteers to watch a mountain pass during a manhunt and ties his host’s prized roan nearby. The heat and an unfamiliar climate lull him to sleep. A lean acquaintance arrives on a crippled mustang and reveals himself as the wanted rustler, electing to face capture rather than flee; the visitor attempts to help but the outlaw seizes the unattended roan and escapes. The posse returns to find their quarry gone and reproaches the sleeping man for missing the decisive moment.
