The Shield of Silence

A young woman raised in privilege awakens to life when she leaves a sheltered existence and seeks refuge at a mountain house for Episcopal Sisters, joining an older, determined hill woman who has come to claim a long-promised pledge. At Ridge House an austere Sister must reconcile competing needs as both newcomers test faith, charity, and the limits of silence. The local landscape and superstition—centered on a storied rock face and an ominous ship—shape conflicts that force private reckonings with hate, pity, duty, and the choice to cling or to let go, while their moral growth leads to ambiguous resolutions.
