The Rising of the Red Man / A Romance of the Louis Riel Rebellion

Set during an uprising led by Métis and Indigenous leaders, the narrative follows civilian and military lives entangled in rebellion, alternating scenes of camp councils, skirmishes, sieges, capture and captivity, and a judgment hall. A young woman must adapt amid pillage and riot, using quick wit and dance to survive, while other figures undertake raids, retreats, and bold bids for liberty. Battles and clandestine maneuvers culminate in captures, escapes, and shifting alliances as loyalties are tested. The work combines action, local color, and interpersonal drama to explore courage, desperation, and the moral ambiguities produced by violent political upheaval.
