About This Book
The story follows a man who, having renounced his hereditary claim to preserve another's happiness, moves between European high society and the African wilderness of his youth. He faces clandestine plots and duels in cities, survives shipwrecks and desert hardships, and encounters lost cities, treasure vaults, and tribal alliances. Action sequences—fights, rescues, and raids—alternate with an inward struggle over identity and belonging as he oscillates between civilized manners and primal instincts, ultimately returning to the forest to confront the consequences of his choices.
