About This Book
Three adolescent rangers accept a customs chief's assignment to go undercover near the northern border to locate a fur-smuggling lane. They travel to the suspected base, receive secret signals and a wireless telephone, and follow torn maps, clues, and trails into remote woods. Along the way they encounter a hermit, hostile guides and smugglers, animal dangers, traps, and several rescues, while using tracking, disguise and quick thinking to uncover the gang's operations. The narrative unfolds as an episodic outdoor adventure combining mystery, teamwork and resourcefulness as the youths pursue the smugglers and recover hidden contraband.
