A small party exploring prehistoric ruins discovers a hidden domain where metal has become conscious and builds living machines and a metallic city. The narrative follows their efforts to understand and survive encounters with shape-shifting metal organisms, reanimated ancient warriors, and enigmatic figures tied to strange elemental powers. Encounters shift between scientific curiosity, desperate flight, betrayal, and sacrificial resistance as the characters probe portals, haunted chambers, and a hierarchy of intelligent metal that seeks dominance.
