About This Book
A lonely cooper longs for a wife and is visited by a tall, gaunt woman who becomes an impeccable, prodigiously eating housekeeper. He discovers she swallows food through a mouth in her head and realizes she is a mountain hag. When he attempts to leave, she requests a large tub as a keepsake, uses the lid to trap him, and carries the tub on her head up into the mountains to serve him as a meal. The tale mixes folktale motifs, dark humor, and commentary on domestic desire, appetite, and deception.
