The Lost Door

A young American inherits an ancestral château in France on condition he spend half his time there, and travels with his close friend, who has long felt a mysterious, irresistible pull. The estate is preserved in anachronistic splendor with servants in period costume and a Gothic mausoleum; its atmosphere fuses memory, ritual, and restored ancient customs. As the men settle into the château’s secluded world, hidden attachments to past centuries emerge, including a seductive, deadly presence and an uncanny love that links present occupants to long-buried destinies.
