The Leak

A financier is plagued by repeated, costly breaches of secrecy in his trading plans and seeks help from a brilliant, scientifically minded detective. The investigator contrasts amateur criminals with those who commit undetectable offenses, applies strict logical and observational methods to the sealed office routines, and focuses on the small circle privy to the plans—particularly the trusted stenographer. Through careful deduction and experimental demonstration the detective reconstructs the path by which information escapes and reveals the person and mechanism responsible for the leak.
