A series of six lectures presents a chronological account of the Jewish presence in Britain through antiquarian evidence, legal records, and narrative episodes up to the late thirteenth century. It surveys arguments for early contacts, linguistic and archaeological conjectures, Roman and medieval charters, and communal institutions such as the Exchequer of the Jews. Medieval chapters recount prosperity and learned activity, medical practice, royal protections and privileges, alongside periods of accusation, massacre, clerical hostility, monetary exactions, and forced conversions triggered by Crusades and blood libel allegations. Appendices reproduce primary documents, edicts, inscriptions, and contemporary testimonies used to illustrate and critique the historical claims.
