About This Book
A detective newly married is summoned by the Prefect of Police in Paris to abandon his honeymoon and undertake a secret mission involving the recovery of an ivory snuff box believed to affect national interests. He is directed to a curio shop and then to London to report to the French ambassador about the missing object. Meanwhile his wife, left behind at a pension, feigns somnambulism to explore a strange house and discovers a laboratory where Dr. Hartmann and an associate plan to obtain the box. The plot alternates official investigation and clandestine probing as both sides race to secure or steal the box.
