About This Book
A comic short story follows Marjorie, a baby mysteriously brought from a fairylike garden and reared under strict scientific childcare. After recovering from measles she blossoms into a demanding child whose appetite for petting and attention provokes a tug of war between her indulgent parents and her inflexible nurse and governing committee. The narrative satirizes early twentieth-century child-rearing orthodoxy, contrasting sentimental motherhood with regimented domestic bureaucracy through humorous domestic episodes and misunderstandings.
