The Hawk of Egypt

A young Englishwoman wanders Cairo's bazaars seeking falcons and exotic animals and notices Hugh Carden Ali, the son of a local sheikh and his English wife. Through hawking, market encounters, and the schemes of courtesans and traders, she becomes involved in a romantic and adventurous entanglement that tests loyalties, family ties, and cultural boundaries. The narrative alternates vivid, sensory scenes of streets and markets with episodes of personal danger and emotional decision, exploring themes of identity, cross-cultural attraction, and fate as characters from differing worlds confront honor, desire, and social constraint.
