About This Book
The narrator recounts a visit to Fairy-land and a festive scene in Goblin-town where small, roguish sprites play pranks. On Christmas Eve a mysterious man in a sleigh interrupts their revels; when the goblins attempt to bind him he uses magic to still them and transforms many into toys. The tale follows the toys' packing into the sleigh and their delivery to children, including gifts left at an orphan's door and for the crippled, while moonbeams and a Fairy-Queen frame the story in lyrical verse and illustrations that mix mischief, wonder, and holiday generosity.
