The Crimson Conquest: A Romance of Pizarro and Peru

The narrative follows the Army of the Conquest as it descends into the valley of Caxamalca, where they encounter the Inca Atahualpa and his vast army. The journey through the Maritime Cordillera is marked by hardship, yet the few Peruvians met along the way offer hospitality. Two embassies from the Inca present gifts and assurances of welcome to the invaders. An interpreter, a young native named Felipillo, facilitates communication between the Spanish soldiers and the Inca's representatives, having been educated in the Spanish language and customs during a previous expedition.
