A young Eskimo girl named Tuktu becomes involved with a herd of reindeer after getting lost in fog and befriending a mischievous deer called Whitefoot; her brother Aklak and their community, along with the herd, face challenges including straying animals, wolves, and moral choices. The narrative follows Tuktu's bond with the deerfolk, the training and selection of a special reindeer, encounters with a benevolent Santa figure who explains the spirit of giving, and visions that connect local lore with Christmas generosity. Themes include kindness, responsibility, cultural tradition, and the rewards of selfless giving.
