About This Book
A group of young scouts become fascinated by aviation when an aviator demonstrates a model and helps them organize a patrol around a craft nicknamed the Thunder Bird. They study plane construction and flight, work to obtain and repair an aeroplane, and practice together until they can attempt a first flight. Along the way they face natural hazards, a damaging fire, and a menacing local threat tied to a legend, forcing quick repairs and cooperative problem solving. The plot combines technical details of early flying machines with episodic adventures that test the boys' courage, ingenuity, and teamwork.
