About This Book
Set in a small cathedral city, the plot follows a respected bishop who guards a troubling secret that an ambitious, ingratiating chaplain hopes to exploit to secure a lucrative preferment. Intrigue spreads through clerical circles and society as detectives, gossipy parishioners and a few loyal defenders probe allegations of blackmail and moral failing. Confessions, confrontations and investigative persistence gradually expose motives and hidden ties, testing personal honour and institutional loyalties, and the narrative resolves with revelations that confront hypocrisy and restore a precarious social equilibrium.
